Poppy seed roll
Everyone knows the classic poppy roll. It must be soft, aromatic, sweet and slightly nutty! You can find many different recipes for this cake, but they all have something in common: yeast dough and lots and lots of poppy seeds.
Ingredients
- 750 g of flour
- 300 g of poppy seeds
- 10 g dry yeast
- 2 tsp of baking powder
- 3 eggs
- 220 g butter
- 500 ml of milk
- 100 ml of honey
- 120 g of sugar
- Pinch of salt
Description
In Russia, the poppy seed roll is often baked for Christmas. The yeast dough is rolled out relatively thin and covered with a rich filling of poppy seeds. The filling offers plenty of space for small improvisations: you can add grated orange or lemon peel, nuts, raisins, honey, etc.
In order to give the sweet cake roll its extraordinary fine taste, the poppy seeds are finely pureed. In addition, the finished poppy seed roll can be drizzled with a little fresh lemon juice or rolled in airy powdered sugar.
